as promised!

Here I am, nearly to Violet’s first birthday, with not a single post in between her birth announcement and now.  I’m still not sure I’ve even finished her birth story!

Typical me.

Violet has been nothing but amazing over the past 11 months. Her toothless smile lights up the room and she has everyone (especially her 5 year old sister) wrapped tightly around her finger.

She is constantly the center of attention, even when I try to shift focus to the big girls. Harper and Ariana love to dote on her, showering her with hugs, kisses and snuggles whenever they get a chance

We’re now gearing up for a 2 week vacation to visit family, followed quickly by Vi’s 1st birthday and Harper’s 4th birthday (and I realize now that Harper’s 3rd birthday was skipped in my blog hiatus, so now I’ll owe her a double post!).

And now (since Violet is taking one of her extremely rare naps in her own bed), I’ll leave with some photos.Image

Spring!

Spring is becoming my favorite season.  After a strange, barely-there winter (which involved a lot of cold and not much snow), I found myself constantly wishing for open windows, walks that didn’t involve heavy layers, and enjoying tea from the comfort of my patio while the girls play in the sunshine.

applesauce & other food stuff

One of our favorite treats around the house is homemade applesauce, which I make using a simple crockpot recipe that I adapted slightly from a friend- I also make double what the original recipe calls for (I don’t think it made nearly enough), so I’ll include the basic recipe at the end.

birthday

Today is my birthday!  I’m celebrating 25 years young and looking forward to many lovely birthdays ahead of me.

Terry surprised me with a little sheep & bird knick-knack that I saw in the store the other day.  He was pretty sneaky & managed to buy it before we left the store without me knowing!  And of course, he found me a pink gift tag out of our large collection.  Such a sweetheart!  Oh the Meercat & Moose nicknames?  Long, silly story falling back to when we were dating in college… and they’ve never gotten old :o)

My sweet daughters have made the day enjoyable, as they do every day!  And in the spirit of my birthday, they have been a little less off-the-walls than usual.  I’ll take it.

I’m cooking homemade spaghetti sauce in the crockpot for my special birthday meal of spaghetti and sausage.  The house smells delicious.

I’m also making ricotta cheese out of the leftover whey that we have from making mozzarella cheese yesterday.  If you ever have the time/ opportunity to make (or at least try!) homemade mozzarella, it is delicious and surprisingly easy to make as long as you are patient.  The ricotta is even easier, as you simply warm the whey, let it sit and scoop the curds out.  Yummy!  I’ll be posting actual recipes for our cheeses later (as long as I remember!).

I am excited for this afternoon, when the girls will help me make a whole wheat chocolate cake and maple buttercream icing!  I can’t wait for Terry to get home to share it with us.

Thanks for reading and sharing my birthday with me :o)

wordless wednesday: unhealthy breakfast

365 project in review!

I decided at the end of 2010/ beginning of 2011 that I needed to get better about using my camera. Solution: take on Project 365 (you can check out this link for a little more info) and make a little photo documentary of an entire year.

Although I was never one to share my daily/ weekly/ monthly 365 photos online (mainly because I am lazy didn’t want to fill the blog with just day-in-the-life pictures!), I decided to share a photo from each month since I began this project on January 1st, 2011.

Apparently, this is my 100th post!

My original plan for my 100th post was to have a giveaway worth $100, but since I only have a handful of regular readers and even less commenters, I decided that I would hold off. More

Ariana is now in charge.

Yep, my two-year old is now going to take care of us. She already tells us what she will and will not do, so why not have her just do everything? It’s preparation for the care she’ll give us when we are senile and drooling older.

Bedtime was her first task.

She had Terry lay down in her bed and gave him a kiss.

Then she covered him with her blanket.

She kindly gave him her Pooh Bear.

Then, she said “kiss!”

After kissing him, said “Night night, Daddy! Outside, Mommy!”

Then she took my hand and began to lead me out of the room.

I’m so proud of this man.

He puts up with a lot.

Happy Saturday!
