Our sweet diva turned four yesterday.

The above photo is at exactly 4 years old (she’s sleeping, as she was born in the middle of the night!)
Where have the years gone?

(this is the outfit she chose to wear in the morning, but she changed soon after since the straps kept slipping)
When she was first born, I held her in my arms, with so many hopes and dreams for a bright future.
Her intelligence constantly amazes me, her jokes keep me smiling, her creativity astounds me (in a good way!).
Happy 4th birthday, Princess :)

(Ariana told me that this picture “has to be there because my hair is silly!” Can’t argue with that!)

Watching my littles grow up is both an amazing and sad experience. I can remember the newborn snuggles so vividly, it’s hard to believe that there are years between those moments and now.
Ariana’s months in the bassinet seemed to suddenly give way to a pack-n-play, crib & eventually a toddler bed. I knew that her time in the toddler bed would be limited, but it was still too soon that we bought her a twin mattress and box spring.

After some lovely time away, I’m slowly getting to read through all the blogs I adore.
I’m enjoying peace and quiet, sipping on hazelnut coffee mixed with vanilla almond milk, while the girls nap. We’ve had a whirlwind couple of weeks, but every moment was wonderful.
After two months apart, the girls ran into Daddy’s arms….
fighting colds

My least favorite part of the weather changing is the fact that every year, I inevitably catch a cold. I sleep as much as I can, drink herbal tea with honey and lemon, sip chicken broth and kick the cold to the curb within a few days.
Unfortunately this year, I am not sick.
“Wait,” you say to yourself, “weren’t you just complaining about catching a cold?”
Why yes I was. The problem is that my babies have both caught colds. It breaks my heart to hear their tiny coughs, to see the red spots under their noses from wiping off the runniness.

It’s finally happened!
At age two and a half, I am officially calling Ariana a potty-trained toddler. We (both Ariana and I) have learned a lot during this process and I want to share how we did it.
Blogging hiatus, frugality and Caroline the pack-rat

This blog post’s alternative title: “I have too much on my mind to decide on a simple title, so deal with a long one & then read my rambling post about basically nothing”.
If you’re one of my few regular blog readers, you’ll notice that my last post was at the beginning of the month. Since I started this blog, this is the longest I’ve gone without posting.
My lack of posts is not for lack of things to say, but rather lack of time or energy. With two always-on-the-go toddlers, I’m lucky if I can sit down for a few minutes during the day without one of them hopping in my lap or begging to go down the slide. More
Labor Day fun :)

Terry and I decided to celebrate Labor Day by sleeping in until… wait for it… 7:45. I know, I know, we are really living life on the edge ;)
We wanted to have a lazy day, so we didn’t make any plans. After breakfast & showers, we decided to take the girls out to the sailboat harbor for some fun on the beach and a picnic lunch.

The girls had a fantastic time! They loved the boats & were thrilled with the shells they found on the ground.

Terry called me out to the porch the other day, telling me to bring my camera. I dutifully hurried outside, figuring he had found another flower for me to practice photographing.
Instead, he surprised me with what is now known as “my little friend”.

Did you miss me?
I’ll assume from the sound of crickets chirping that you simply fell asleep because you were so lonely and sad, sitting next to the computer, eyes bloodshot, waiting longingly for an email detailing my latest rambling post… or because there were only two hits on my blog today (which is super pathetic by the way), you probably forgot about my blog entirely since last Wednesday.
Don’t worry, I’ll recover.
Maybe.
Excuse me while I sit behind the couch with a large chocolate bunny and drown my sorrows by crying and eating said-bunny’s ears. What was that you said? Diet? I have no idea what you are talking about. You must be delirious from sitting awake for over 72 hours hoping I’d post some little morsel for your pleasure.
Regardless of me falling off the wagon straying slightly from my diet and regardless of you being so grateful for a new blog post you could kiss me getting excited for another rousing round of “how much can Caroline fit into one blog post?”, I am back to post about my thrilling visit to my mom’s house.
We had a fantastic trip! My mom and dad were, as usual, wonderful with the girls. They played well together (grandparents and granddaughters), we were all spoiled (favorite meals were cooked, there were presents galore, our tax return came so we could finally get iPhones), and we were all sad when the visit came to an end.
It snowed while we were there, because what is spring without four inches of snow during the only three days we were able to visit this month?
I will leave you with some mommy-ness:
Ariana came into the bedroom this evening and promptly took off all of her clothes. She laid down on the mini-futon/couch thing, wrapped herself in my zip-up sweatshirt and said “I go to sleep”. I took 509,634 pictures (okay, I may have exaggerated… it was only 509,598) and here is my favorite:
